Dear humanity,
I’m not sure if you’re aware of the fact that 3.6 Billion people don’t have enough water.
I sure wasn’t for a long time. So I researched it & here is what I learned:
Half of our population lives in areas that a lacking water at least one month a year.
„If we don’t do anything over 5 Billion people will suffer from water shortage by 2050“
Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO
Responsible for that are the rising population, growing consumerism & of course, climate change. It’s because climate change is messing with the natural water cycle, as dry areas get even drier & moist regions get even moister.
It seems that in some African & Asian regions water usage is going to triple & in (South-) America be twice as much than now in the next years.
There is a lot of things we can do to save some water.
But what I want to raise awareness to in this post, is how much more water we need for producing our meat, milk, eggs etc. than growing crops & other plant based food.
To produce one kilogram of beef, we need 15.000 litres of water!
For ONE kilogram 15.000 litres water 😱
In comparison: We need only 100 litres for one kilogram of potatoes.
It seems that meat production also influences the water quality negativley as animal poo 💩 & antibiotics residues used for the animals can get into the groundwater .
